Life coaching is a process of discovery and creation. It involves two people -- the coach, and the coachee (you) – who engage for the benefit of one (YOU).
Life coaching involves standing in the present and looking toward the future, creating possibilities and then taking the necessary steps to make your vision a reality.

How It Works and What to Expect
Coaching utilizes many different techniques - listening, challenging, collaborating, guiding, strategizing, encouraging, questioning, and a host of other methods. It is the coach's role to use these techniques and methods in a supportive, nourishing, compassionate and honest way. It is your job, as the resident expert on Y0U, to do the work that needs to be done in order to have the life that you want.
Life coaching lends itself to flexibility. It can be done in person or by phone. The latter is called tele-coaching. Tele-coaching imparts a great deal of convenience, fluidity and options. Without travel or commuting requirements your appointments can be more flexible; and without geographical boundaries you can work with coaches worldwide.

Getting Started
Because good rapport is a critical component to the coaching process, many coaches offer an initial information-gathering session. This is a great opportunity for you to ask questions, identify your goals, and determine if life coaching is the best option for you.
Since we all operate at a different pace and have different needs, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly how long the coaching process takes to make a difference. However, the beauty of coaching is that it is entirely up to you because it is about you!
Keep in mind that Life Coaching and mental health counseling are not the same. Although life coaches are trained in the difference between the two practices and are taught to recognize when someone may need more support than life coaching, not all life coaches have a professional background in mental health counseling. Contact your insurance company for a list of mental health professionals if you are in need of mental health counseling.
